About Mad River Canoe

2007-08-23

Mad River Canoe was founded in 1971 by Jim and Kay Henry, both accomplished canoeists and kayakers who shared a passion for wilderness tripping and whitewater racing. It was their woodshed in Waitsfield, Vermont that the first Mad River Canoe was born out of a need for a higher performance, more durable canoe than was currently available. Jim Henry paddled this original canoe, named the Malecite, to his first of many national whitewater championships. Demand soon grew for Jim’s fast and efficient designs as more of his competitors visited the woodshed.
